Suspected herdsmen attacked the Tyoshin community in Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday night, with many dead in the onslaught.
Local sources revealed that the armed men stormed the area under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror on the residents.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties remains uncertain, but those who witnessed the attack said it was brutal and devastating.
One of the victims of the attack was identified as Monday Dooden, a native of the community.
Dooden’s brother, Akawe Francis, posted the tragedy on social media, writing, “Monday Dooden, my brother, we ran away from the village because of Fulani attacks to Naka over 10 years ago, but we didn’t escape. Last night you were killed by the same Fulani.”
A similar attack occurred earlier on Sunday in Edikwu Ankpali, Apa Local Government Area, and many were also reportedly killed.
