Alleged False Claim: Court fixes June 19 to take Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s plea
Alleged False Claim: Court fixes June 19 to take Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s plea

….as FG retains Akpabio, Yahaya Bello, 4 others as witnesses By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA– A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, sitting at Maitama, has fixed June 19 for the suspended Senator for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to Federal Government’s allegation that she made false claims. The court, in the notice that was signed by its Registrar, Hiradi Dada, directed the parties to produce their evidence and witnesses ahead of the scheduled hearing. Among those listed as witnesses in the matter included the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who were cited as nominal complainants. Other witnesses are two police officers that investigated the matter, Maya Iliya and Abdulhafiz Garba; a Senator, Asuquo Ekpenyong and one Sandra Duru. In the charge marked: CR/297/25, FG alleged that the embattled female lawmaker who was earlier handed a six-month suspension by the Senate, made the false and defamatory remarks when she appeared as guest on live television. It specifically accused the lawmaker who was cited as the sole defendant in the matter, of making “imputation, knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.” According to the charge, by making such false imputation that tarnished the image of others, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, committed an offence under  391 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990. It added that the alleged offence is punishable under section 392 of the same law. Giving particulars of the offence in count-one of the charge, FG, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime on April 3, during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today. The lawmaker was said to have made an allegation that some politicians opposed to her were plotting to assassinate her. The charge, dated May 16, came on the heels of a letter Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote to the AGF, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, wherein she accused police of exhibiting bias in the investigation of her petitions against the Senate President. The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier slated June 27 to determine the legality or otherwise of the six-month suspension that was slammed on the defendant by the Senate. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan approached the court after she was summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee following a faceoff she had with the Senate President during plenary on February 20. While protesting alleged arbitrary change of her seating position, she repeatedly raised a point of order to be allowed to speak, even though she had been overruled by the Senate President. Irked by her conduct, the Senate President referred her case to the Ethics Committee. In a television interview she granted on February 28, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that her travails in the Senate began after she rejected unwanted advances from the Senate President, Akpabio. In an ex-parte application she brought before the court, she applied for an order to declare any action the Senate Committee took within the pendency of her suit, including her suspension, as, “null, void, and of no effect.” The post Alleged False Claim: Court fixes June 19 to take Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s plea appeared first on Vanguard News.

Alleged Defamation: Court Sets June 19 For Natasha’s Arraignment Amid Witness Credibility Saga
Alleged Defamation: Court Sets June 19 For Natasha’s Arraignment Amid Witness Credibility Saga

The Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, has fixed June 19, 2025, for the arraignment of the suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a defamation case brought against her by the Federal Government on behalf of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello. The arraignment, which was initially set for June 3, was adjourned following procedural delays. A reminder notice obtained from the court’s registrar, Hiradi Dada, and signed on June 5, confirmed that all parties were expected to appear for the proceedings. The charge stemmed from claims advanced by Akpabio and Bello, with figures such as Ms. Sandra Duru, a.k.a ‘Prof Mgbeke’, listed as key witnesses. However, public outrage deepened following revelations by Ken Okolugbo, communications aide to Akpabio, who in a now-deleted social media post, confessed to participating in a plot to blackmail Senator Natasha. Okolugbo admitted to meetings with Duru and others in London aimed at fabricating evidence to malign the embattled female Senator. He, however, subsequently claimed that his X account was hacked and that he did not make sure post. Further complicating the case, media activist Obinna Oparaku Akuwudike was arrested at 3am in Owerri, Imo State, on the orders of the Inspector General of Police. Obinna had gone public in an interview on Adeola Fayehun’s platform, alleging that he was paid ₦2.5 million by Duru to produce defamatory content against Natasha, and linking Akpabio to the scheme. His arrest has been seen by critics as part of a broader effort to silence dissenting voices and shield high-level political actors from scrutiny. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has expressed confidence that the truth will prevail, even as civic groups continued to demand that the Attorney General of the Federation and Inspector General of Police explain why a fugitive like Duru was being shielded from arrest while being used to prosecute a sitting Senator.

Dangote Refinery To Begin Nationwide Petrol, Diesel Distribution August 15

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the commencement of nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel starting August 15, 2025. In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery revealed that the scheme targeted marketers, petrol station operators, manufacturers, telecom firms, aviation companies, and other large-scale users across the country. As part of its distribution strategy, Dangote Refinery will provide free logistics support, a bold move aimed at eliminating transportation costs and boosting efficiency in the downstream sector.   To facilitate the rollout, the refinery has procured 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers, which will form the backbone of a robust and sustainable distribution network.   “This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the statement read. “It affirms our dedication to improving the availability and affordability of fuel.”   In addition to CNG tankers, the refinery was building a network of CNG stations commonly referred to as daughter booster stations backed by a fleet of over 100 CNG transport vehicles. This setup, the refinery noted, will ensure seamless and reliable delivery of fuel across all regions, including rural and underserved areas.   Under the new system, fuel stations and corporate clients purchasing PMS or diesel directly from Dangote Petroleum Refinery will enjoy enhanced delivery support at no cost. The initiative was also expected to benefit sectors such as manufacturing and telecommunications by reducing fuel-related overheads and contributing to lower inflation and operational costs.   Further boosting its appeal, the refinery will offer a credit facility to bulk buyers: entities purchasing a minimum of 500,000 litres will be eligible for an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks, supported by a bank guarantee.   Dangote Petroleum Refinery highlighted that this move would revive dormant petrol stations, promote job creation, support SMEs, and increase government revenue. It said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reflecting the administration’s drive for economic reform and inclusive growth.   “This marks a major revolution in the midstream and downstream sectors and stands as a key example of President Bola Tinubu’s bold and reformative economic policies,” the statement continued.   The refinery also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its support, particularly through the Naira-for-Crude scheme, which has helped stabilizs domestic fuel supply amidst global price fluctuations.   It added that registration and Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for interested stakeholders will run from June 16 to August 15, spanning 60 days.
